Yuzo Kayama was borne on April 11, 1937, in Kanagawa Prefecture.

After entering TOHO in 1960, he made his film debut in “Otoko tai Otoko (Man Against Man).” In 1961, he starred in “Daigaku no Wakadaisho (Sir Galahad in Campus),” the first film of his highly popular “Wakadaisho” series. He also appeared in “Tsubaki Sanjuro (Sanjuro)” and “Akahige (Red Beard),” the films directed by Akira Kurosawa.

As a singer, his song “Kimi to Itsumademo (Love Forever)” became a major hit in 1965. In the years that followed, he had many hits, including “Oyome ni Oide (Come To Be My Bride).” 

In 2014, he became the oldest person to perform as a solo singer at Nippon Budokan at the age of 77 and successfully completed his national tour in 47 prefectures. 

In 2016, in commemoration of his 55th anniversary as an actor and singer, he held a two-day “Wakadaisho Festival” under the concept of “Music Goes Beyond Generations” together with invited artists of various ages. The festival brought much excitement to the audiences of various generations. 

Despite brain infarction in 2019 and intracerebral hemorrhage caused by aspiration in 2019, he came back from the brink in 2021. 

On September 9, 2022, he performed a hall concert as his last show.

2014年以若大将EXPO为主题， 77歳在日本武道馆举办单独公演，创造年龄最大的记录，并成功完成 47 个都道府县全部的巡回演出。

2016年为了纪念演艺生活55周年，

以「音楽跨越时代及世代」为理念，举办两天的若大将FES活动。

并邀请各年代表演者，让各年龄层的观众大为兴奋。

2019年脑中风，2020年因误食造成小脑内出血，但于2021年回归。

2022 年 9 月 9 日举办加山雄三最后一场的音乐厅演唱会。

歌手としては'65年に「君といつまでも」が大ヒット。以後も『お嫁においで』など、 数々のヒット曲を世に送り出す。

2014年には若大将EXPOと題して、 77歳にして日本武道館単独公演 最年長記録を樹立し、 47都道府県全県でのツアーを成功裡におさめた。

2016年は芸能生活55周年を記念し、「音楽は時代や世代を超える」をコンセプトにした 若大将FESを二日間に渡って開催。様々な年代のアーティストを招き、 幅広い世代の観客を大いに沸かせた。

2019年脳梗塞、2020年誤嚥からの小脳内出血など発症したが2021年カムバックを果たす。

2022年9月9日には加山雄三のラストショーとなるホールコンサートが公演。
